About

Hi! I'm Jasmine.
Here's a little bit about me and my philosophy.
I am a fourth year undergraduate student at Ryerson University in the Early Childhood Studies program, working towards a Psychology Minor! This portfolio is a tool for documenting my learning, field education experiences, and for other educators and students looking for inspiration and ideas in their planning!

My philosophy supports play based exploration of children's curiosity of the world around them. Child initiated activities, open ended materials and active participation are a few of the many strategies that I use in creating engaging and meaningful experiences. Curriculum based expectations are then integrated in children's explorations. To foster early childhood development, I strive in supporting the foundational areas of social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
A responsive environment is an essential tool to support children's growth and development. This includes children's physical and social environment. Children's physical space acts to accommodate to various needs, to ignite and further challenge inquiries. In addition, the social space is developed through ongoing partnerships with families, professionals and community involvement. In every setting that I participate in and within my activity plans, I encourage and implement practices of diversity and inclusivity.

Through ongoing reflection and active learning, I hope to reflect this philosophy in my teaching!

Future Goals & Aspirations

I aim to pursue further studies in assessment for children with special needs in school and clinical settings. I have a deep interest in working with children with various needs like Autism Spectrum Disorder, and I am excited for future opportunities where I can practise what I know and learn new skills! I am also eager to travel and learn more about the various teaching philosophies around the world such as in Japan, Italy and British Columbia.
