Children with Exceptionalities
Early Literacy: Interactive Book Series
This project was created for the course Children with Disabilities (course code: CLD 241). The objective of this project was to create a product that would act as a tool to assist children with special needs in their learning and development. With a group, we created an interactive book to support early literacy for children with a range of needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cerebral Palsy. The book provides opportunities for children to practise their abilities in understanding letter sounds and patterns, covering areas of phonological and phonemic awareness. The book itself is a tactile experience, with removable pieces, felt and foam material, thick tabs to turn the page, images to represent the letter and sounds, as well as an imaginary button that would read the sound out with the child. There is also a pen that allows that child to trace the words. For information on the rationale, benefits and more, please click on the planet icon for the pdf and images of the book. Enjoy!
