Connecting with Families

Recreational Programs within East Toronto (Scarborough)

IMG_5031.JPG

After participating in parent meetings which discussed children's learning goals and getting to know families at the annual Triathlon, I created a poll to ask parents what types of activities they would be interested in enrolling or attending with their child. The survey results showed that many parents wanted their child to practise skills of independence, socialization with peers, self-help skills and overall explore sensory based materials. I also asked families for the major intersection in relation to their home.

As most families live within the Scarborough area, I conducted research to determine what programs were offered and located these programs on a map. The pink push pins represent Holland Bloorview's main site (hospital) and the Scarborough Nursery School. The recreational programs are represented in blue push pins to show the distance and proximity between HB's sites and the programs.

I also created a pamphlet that highlighted the resources (address, phone number and general summary) that parents could take home and do further research if needed. This was a great way to provide support for families as it gave me an opportunity to get to know families' needs and desires, while finding ways to support these expectations.

Below are the images to my pamphlet!
