For a second year course called History and Philosophy of Early Childhood Studies (course code: CLD 213), the final paper was a culmination of philosophies throughout history about how children should be educated and the factors that play a role in supporting children's development. Influential philosophies ranged from the works of Plato, Dewey, Pestalozzi, Rousseau, Comenius, the Forest Schools in British Columbia, and many more! The essential components to support children's learning that was highlighted in the paper are ideas surrounding:

-
The Child
-
Family
-
Community
-
Environment
-
Educator
The impact of this paper provided an opportunity for me to develop a personal philosophy influenced by the philosophers and philosophies around the world, listed above. My paper discusses many important topics of how children should be supported, such as open-ended, spontaneous experiences, play-based learning, children's role in their community, inclusivity, the critical role of planning and assessment done by professionals and other topics. This paper allowed me to reflect on my practice, and provided perspectives that are continuously influential in my process of becoming an educator.
