The Hanen Program
Learning, Language and Loving It Workshop
The Hanen: Learning Language and Loving it workshop was a great tool in learning about accommodating ways to support children's learning. I learned about various methods that helped me to foster children' development and inquiries. Through a series of videos, readings and observations, I was able to learn about techniques such as SSCAN (small groups, set up an appropriate activity, carefully observe, adapt your responses to each child's needs, now keep it going!), OWL (observe, wait and listen), types of conversational styles, how to interact with different conversational styles, fostering peer interaction, and many more techniques! These techniques were used during my time at the Ryerson Early Learning Centre and were helpful in fostering the children's learning. After finishing the series of workshops within 5 weeks, I was awarded a certificate for completion. These versatile techniques are especially helpful when supporting children with needs in communicative domains, and is useful in all settings!
